On Set Fines

This is somethign im thinking of introducing on my shoots, ie like if some is late to a rendevouz or set say a ten pound fine or if someone forgets a prop or piece of equimpent 5 fine and so


has nayone comce across this before or implemented before

No it doesnt sound great. Sounds like a great way to piss people off, and trash morale. There has to be a better way to encourage people to remember their equipment.
Perhaps if someone forgets a peice of equipment they have to stand up infront of the whole crew and cast and tell them all. That way perhaps someone their will be able to think of a way to improvise around the problem.
If people are working for you for nothing but good will, fine-ing them will loose your goodwill. Im sure, perhaps if you explain to everyone that you are thinking of introducing the fining scheme, but have decided against it, but decided instead to do this... just to make people more responsible for their role, and make it more interesting.

If everyone's professionally minded in the first place, that sort of stuff generally doesn't happen -- although it still can of course.

But there should be no excuses for being late and not telling anyone beforehand. (ie you can be late, just let somebody know!!).

I belive Guy Ritchie imposed fines on set in snatch for using mobiles. You can see his fines on the DVD.

Insert disc 2 of Snatch (the special features disc) and wait for the main menu to appear;
From the main menu, press right until you highlight 'The Making Of Snatch' and press UP three times to highlight a '$' sign. Press ENTER and a list of spot fines incurred during filming will appear (there's 3 pages of these

I can see no benefit in this practice at all. Nothing can be achieved by pissing people off who you are supposed to be working with. You alienate yourself and everybody else and create low morale. Nobody will respect you for it.

if im spending x amount a day, and im paying people there travel catering accom plus a copy of the showreel and a few partys along the way.

surely i should in return expect a profesional attitude and no one should be late for example anyway. no budget/low budget/full budget shouldnt really affect peoples work attitude.

not bringing it in on my current set of productions, instead have a nun sin-bin where the member of crew has the spend the rest of the daydressed as a nun.

but in november this year going to be starting on my biggest production to date and will definetly be bringing it i then

IMO the most important thing is in the way you tell them about the fines. Be especially nice and address the whole crew - avoid sounding too much of a cop.

I'm talking about when you tell them that fines will be issued, not when you're actually dishing one out.
